Alternative to Cloud VGP: fleet tracking or VGP inspections?

In brief

Cloud VGP and Trackary meet needs that overlap without being identical. According to its websites, Cloud VGP offers deadline scheduling, on-site inspection entry, VGP reports and a safety register, with a free tier under conditions (publisher's website). Trackary tracks equipment, its deadlines and its maintenance jobs, but neither carries out nor certifies periodic thorough inspections (VGP).

Before choosing, separate tracking the equipment owner's obligations from the work of the inspector who carries out the VGP inspection and writes the report. Cloud VGP also publishes several offers; do not confuse them. Information recorded on 6 October 2026, with a link to each source.

Cloud VGP in brief

According to logiciel-vgp.com, the shared Cloud VGP offer brings together scheduling and alerts, a field app (inspect, photograph, sign), VGP reports, a safety register and equipment management; all seven features are available in the free tier (Features page). The site targets tradespeople and the construction sector (MEWPs, equipment), freelancers and equipment hire, and states more than 2,000 active inspectors; it mentions an offline mode for recording inspections without a network (homepage).

According to cloud-vgp.fr, a separate Cloud VGP offer provides private-SaaS VGP software, in a dedicated instance, with white labelling, integrations, an API and SSO, plus CMMS features (cloud-vgp.fr). This version should not be confused with the public pricing of the shared offer: its price is set “after scoping” (cloud-vgp.fr Pricing page). In both cases, the software supports the work: “the periodic thorough inspection is still carried out by a competent person or an inspection body” (logiciel-vgp.com).

When to choose Cloud VGP over Trackary

If you carry out inspections yourself as part of an inspection business, the difference is clear: Cloud VGP lets you enter inspections and reserves, photograph and sign on site, then produce and send VGP reports (source). Trackary does not produce a VGP report. It is also an option for an owner who mainly wants a digital safety register and reminders, or for a hire company that wants to share inspections with its clients (source).

The shared offer publishes its pricing grid, calculated per active item of equipment, with unlimited users, support and updates included, with no commitment (Pricing page). Electronic invoicing is included (source); Trackary does not handle invoicing.

If you are a large organisation with requirements for dedicated hosting, white labelling and IT integration (API, SSO), cloud-vgp.fr's offer is designed for this context (source) and is priced after scoping (source).

When to choose Trackary

For an operator of construction or road-rail equipment, Trackary links fleet tracking to day-to-day servicing. A machine's record carries its category, fleet number, hour meters, history and documents. Deadlines can be configured for VGP inspections, safety equipment and, for road-rail equipment, the equipotentiality test or RFN approval. You can keep supporting documents, but Trackary neither carries out nor certifies the inspection itself.

When a driver or technician spots a problem, they can report the component affected, describe the finding, assign a minor or major severity and attach photos. The manager then schedules the job for a technician. On mobile, the technician accesses their day's schedule and the equipment record, then records check points, observations and a signature in a report; a PDF job report completes the history.

Data already loaded is viewable on the offline mobile app; entries and photos sync once the network returns. The web app requires a connection. Trackary is available on request, after a 30-minute video demo. Trackary does not invoice your clients and does not manage hire, parts stock, GPS or telematics. If your business is producing inspection reports for clients, inspector-focused software such as Cloud VGP is a better fit.

Trying Trackary

The distinction is best checked in practice: bring a piece of equipment with an upcoming VGP inspection, an existing report and a fault to deal with. Ask where each document is, then walk through a maintenance job. Do not confuse the report from this job with the report produced by the person who carries out the VGP inspection.

  1. Prepare the equipment's record, its hour meter, its documents and the date of its next inspection.
  2. Request a demo, then follow the deadline, the fault, its assignment and the technician's report.
  3. Check offline mobile use and syncing; ask how to attach a VGP report produced by the inspector.
  4. Compare what's included: Trackary is available on request, with an offline field app, hosting and support included.

Frequently asked questions

Is Cloud VGP free?

Cloud VGP publishes the pricing grid for its shared offer, calculated per active item of equipment (Cloud VGP Pricing page). cloud-vgp.fr's private offer is priced after scoping. Trackary is available on request, after a 30-minute demo.

What is an alternative to Cloud VGP for an equipment fleet?

Trackary suits an operator who wants to combine equipment records, deadlines, photographed faults, technician scheduling and maintenance history. It does not replace software for carrying out VGP inspections.

Does Trackary carry out and certify VGP inspections?

No. Trackary tracks deadlines and documents, but neither carries out nor certifies inspections. The VGP report is the responsibility of the competent person or the inspection body carrying out the check.

Is Cloud VGP aimed only at inspectors?

No. According to logiciel-vgp.com, the service also targets tradespeople, construction, freelancers and equipment hire for tracking their deadlines, register and reports (source).

Do both tools work without a network?

According to its website, Cloud VGP lets you enter inspections without a network and then sync (source). On Trackary, mobile data already loaded stays viewable and entries and photos sync on reconnection; the web app needs a network.
