Hector alternative: which solution for maintaining your construction equipment?
Hector is a cloud asset and inventory management tool for multiple sectors: tracking equipment with barcodes, QR codes or RFID, loans and reservations, stock and maintenance (vendor site). It answers the need to know where tools are and to manage stock. Trackary, a CMMS dedicated to heavy equipment, focuses instead on maintaining an equipment fleet: VGP inspections, field anomalies and offline mechanics.
Hector and Trackary both help you “manage equipment”, but not in the same way. Here is what each vendor publishes, with a link to the page we read it on, so you can choose based on your real need: inventory and stock, or equipment maintenance.
Hector in brief
According to its site, Hector is a cloud asset and inventory management solution that adapts “to every sector: education, construction, healthcare, local government, IT departments” (Hector construction page). The vendor states more than 1,000 customers on the same page.
For construction, Hector describes tracking equipment, tools and consumables “from the depot to the site”, managing loans and maintenance, restocking alerts and generating inventory reports (construction page). Each asset can be assigned to an employee or a location “with a single scan” (Asset tracking page). The mobile app is available on iOS and Android (Mobile app page).
Hector states that “maintenance is built in (CMMS)” with preventive maintenance notifications (Asset tracking page); its pricing page mentions servicing and inspections with alerts, assignable work orders and supplier management. The offer comes in three plans (Bouclier, Armure, Château) based on the number of assets tracked, with a free 15-day trial and no credit card required (Pricing page). The number of users is unlimited, at no extra cost (FAQ on the construction page).

When to choose Hector over Trackary
Hector better fits your need if:
- Your main problem is knowing where each tool or piece of equipment is, who has it and when it comes back: Hector manages loans, reservations and assignments by scan (source). Trackary manages neither loans nor reservations.
- You manage a lot of small tools, equipment, PPE or consumables, with minimum/maximum stock levels and restocking alerts (source). Trackary does not manage stock.
- You want to label equipment with barcodes, QR codes or RFID tags and scan it with a phone (source). Trackary does not do QR codes.
- You also have an IT fleet or other non-construction assets to track in the same tool: Hector serves multiple sectors (source).
- You want an app already published on iOS and Android today (source).
When to choose Trackary
Trackary is not an inventory tool: it is a CMMS (computerised maintenance management system) for heavy equipment. It answers a different need if:
- Your main assets are construction machines, aerial work platforms, forklifts, excavators or road-rail vehicles, with hour meters and statutory inspections.
- You want configurable deadlines for VGP inspections, safety equipment and, for road-rail, the bonding/earthing test and RFN approval.
- The field needs to report a breakdown with a photo, affected component, notes and severity, so the workshop can schedule the job.
- Your mechanics fill in a job report with checkpoints, observations and a signature, even without a network connection, and you want a PDF report at the end.
- You want to see the tool on your own equipment before deciding: Trackary starts with a 30-minute video demo, then a no-commitment quote.
How to try Trackary or migrate from Hector
If you already use Hector for tools and stock, you can keep it and use Trackary only for the equipment that needs real maintenance tracking.
- Export the list of machines to track from your current tool: fleet number, category, make, model, hour meter. Our free fleet management spreadsheet (/outils/tableau-parc-materiel.xlsx) gives a ready-to-use format.
- Gather the dates of the last inspections; the VGP deadline calculator (/periodicite-vgp#calculateur) helps recalculate the next ones.
- Request a demo to see the machine record, the deadlines and the mechanic app.
- Import part of the fleet and test with a few technicians before rolling it out further.
If your equipment needs real maintenance and inspection tracking, not just an inventory, a 30-minute demo will show you whether Trackary is a fit. Request a demo →
